Product description

Searchline Excel is the world’s best-selling infrared open-path flammable gas detector. Since 1998 it has been the industrial standard for open-path IR, with more than 20,000 installations from the Arctic Circle to Middle East deserts. Honeywell Analytics introduced the first Searchline in 1987 and pioneered open-path IR combustible detection.

Beyond every benefit of point IR, open-path coverage finds vapour clouds that point detectors miss: wide area, very fast response, no undetectable beam-block faults, less critical siting, and a digital LEL·m reading of cloud hazard.

The patented coaxial optics and dual-band-pass filter give fog and rain the same linear effect on the reference wavelength, so the instrument does not need software to hide optical weaknesses. A xenon flash is brighter than sunlight in the IR detection band; the solid-state detector rejects any signal that lacks the unique pulse signature, so sunlight, flares, arc welding and lightning cannot fool it. Searchline Excel was also the first open-path detector to pass FM performance testing and continues to operate correctly with partial obscuration and no false alarm.

Alignment and communications

Correct Tx/Rx alignment is the key to open-path performance. The current alignment kit lowers the demand on angular accuracy and received intensity: high-magnification shock-proof rifle scope, 3-point lock, and a viewing angle that can be rotated to the most convenient position. Handheld software shows target versus live signal and stays compatible with installed systems.

Multi-drop Modbus lets up to 32 detectors share one communications cable so configuration, warnings and diagnostics reach the control room before anyone is sent to the field. Junction-box options are ATEX DVC100(m) MKII or UL/CSA/FM DX100(M).

Cross-duct variant (separate order)

The Searchline Excel cross-duct variant covers 0.5–5 m ducts, methane calibration, 0–100 %LEL, T90 < 1 s. Minimum alarm: 20 %LEL for 0.5–2.5 m duct width, 10 %LEL for 2.5–5 m. Body 13 W max; heated reflector 6 W at 24 VDC. Do not mix cross-duct SKUs with the 0–5 LEL·m open-path family.
